Grace and Gratitude

 Grace and Gratitude

The human mind works in amazing ways. We can sit and figure

out a bunch of things, we can come up with solutions to

complicated problems. We have the ability to change situations

that seem to be hard to work around and most importantly, we

know and understand that love is imperative for survival. We

know and we understand the importance of going over and beyond

for each other even when it means compromising something that

we think life will be difficult without. What’s that? A

glimpse of grace.

Grace defined, could be “unending mercies,” or “kindness in

abundance.” My understanding of grace is the love of God shown

to man in unspeakable ways or in ways that are beyond one’s

understanding. No one human being can decipher what grace is,

in its wholeness and no one human being can figure out what it

takes for God to give us grace that, in actual fact, amounts

to all that we are and all that we have.

The first act of grace that crosses my mind every time I think

about the concept, is that God sacrificed His Son so that we

may have life and have it to the full. Grace to me will always

be a symbol of God’s love in immeasurable ways and that is why

it will forever be my favourite thing.

Symbols of grace in our lives

We spend so much time worrying about tomorrow. What does the

future hold for me? Where will I be, ten years from now? We

worry about what we may have to eat in weeks to come and how

we’re going to commute to and from work, for a certain period.

We put so much strain on ourselves, forgetting that we have a

Provider who aims to give us all that we need. Often times,

when we reach the periods that we were concerned about, we

have even forgotten that we were once worried. Worried about

food, transport, shelter and security. I’m not saying that our

concerns were in vain but what am I saying? Grace came through

for us. Grace provides. Grace gets rid of the worries while

it provides comfort and fulfils our needs. What is grace? The

goodness of God in the lives of His children

Grace rescues. We often find ourselves in very compromising

situations in our lives. We become engulfed in darkness and

misery, to a point where it feels like we have reached a dead

end but grace always comes through for us. Always. Without a

doubt and without hesitation, grace comes through and grace

carries us through storms and struggles.

Grace and Purpose

My life has been nothing but a constant reminder that God is

limitless and unbeatable. Believe me when I tell you that I

have spent a lot of time in my 22 years, trying to figure out

what my greater purpose is and how I’m supposed to fulfil the

said purpose. Am I supposed to serve in ministry my whole

life, and if so, how? Am I supposed to use my talents to

rescue lost souls? Does God want me to spend my life

travelling around the world, preaching salvation to the

masses? Does He want me to write and share my knowledge about

Him through my ability to put words together? What is my

greater purpose as an individual?

A glimpse of grace was when God revealed to me that in order

for me to reach and fulfil my greater purpose, I have to wake

up every day with the intention to trust God to reveal to me

the purpose that I am supposed to serve on that day; believing

in Him and believing that He will be able to carry me through

anything that I have to do on that day. Grace reveals purpose

and grace carries you through purpose. Without a doubt,

without hesitation and without struggles.

How to experience grace in its wholeness

Gratitude. Grace and gratitude go hand in hand. This is how

God has intended for us to experience His grace in astounding

ways and to be able to live in it. We have to be grateful for

everything we have and to believe that we’re living lives of

abundance, in order to experience grace in waves. Grace like

the ocean. Overwhelming and reckless grace. Grace that shifts

your focus. Grace that changes lives and grace that saves..

Like the widow who needed to pay her debts and care for her

sons in II Kings 4, we have to believe in a life if abundance

and a life of overflow. When we humble ourselves to God and

make requests (like she did to her master), we need to ask

with our whole hearts and believe fully that what we seek in

prayer, we will be granted according to our faiths. If you

believe that God will give you what you ask for and you will

accept that abundantly, God will continue to bless you and

show you His grace in waves.

This is how you put grace and gratitude together. Without a

grateful heart, it is difficult to see the blessings that God

is giving you, even when these are prayers to the things that

you have asked him for. Taking time to figure out what you’re

grateful for opens room for more blessings.

God gives to those who appreciate and live in abundance, and

what better way to show your gratitude to God by also giving

to those around you. This does not only apply to material

things. What do you have in your hands that you can give to

other people? What’s a skill or talent that you can teach

someone else so they can create a living for themselves? What

knowledge do you have that can help someone better their life

and what is it that you can do to save someone’s life? Invest in these things and  use them to show gratitude, and you will always see God’s grace.
